Wounded Army Ranger to Receive New Home Compliments of Raleigh Builder & Land Developer

Chesapeake Homes & Wakefield Development reveal plans to join Operation Coming Home In building home for Army Ranger Nathan Rimpf on anniversary of his sustaining wounds.

RALEIGH, NC, July 8, 2013 – Chesapeake Homes and Wakefield Development have joined forces with Operation Coming Home and the Home Builders Association of Raleigh‐Wake County to build a new home for area native and Army Ranger Nathan Rimpf. Exactly one year ago today, Nathan’s life changed. While serving in eastern Afghanistan as part of the 2nd Battalion 16th Infantry as a platoon leader, Nathan stepped on a mine severely damaging both of his legs resulting in amputations.

Nathan soon realized he might never be able to walk again. Nathan’s mother Cindy Rimpf, explains, “July 8, 2012 was filled with pain and anxiety for our family. I could never have imagined that, one year later, our son would be named as a recipient of a home to be built in Raleigh by Chesapeake Homes.” As a result of Nathan’s drive and determination, he can now walk, and even run, with the use of his “new” legs. He continues his recovery and therapy at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland travelling back and forth to Raleigh to meet with the builder about the floor plans, and how his new home will specifically accommodate his disability.

Chesapeake Homes and Wakefield Development have made the commitment to build this home at Renaissance Park in Raleigh, North Carolina, partnering with many of their existing vendors and subcontractors to provide no/low cost materials and services for the home’s construction. “This is a chance to give back to one who has sacrificed so much for
his country and to provide a new beginning and opportunity for this special young man,” added Mark Kring, head of Chesapeake Homes’ North Carolina division.

To meet Nathan is to come to know a young man loyal to his country, and who has become totally self‐deprecating following the loss of both of his legs. Nathan explains, "I am honored to be selected as the recipient of Hero Home Six. Operation Coming Home and those involved are truly changing the lives of wounded veterans, including my own. I am humbled to be part of such an extraordinarily patriotic community who knows that Freedom Isn't Free."

Excitement will build in coming months for Nathan, his parents, his family and friends, and everyone involved in this project from builder to developer to his neighbors in the community. The official groundbreaking for Nathan’s home will take place Thursday, August 8, and the Key Ceremony, where Nathan takes possession of his special home, is set to occur in mid‐November. We invite everyone to follow Nathan’s journey to becoming a new homeowner on the Chesapeake Homes’ website – cheshomes.com – and the builder’s corporate Facebook page via Nathan’s video diary. Photos and video of Nathan, the progress on his home, and snippets of information about how to support future veterans through Operation Coming Home will be regularly featured. In closing, Cindy Rimpf added, “What an amazing journey this has been and, still is! Thanks so much for everything Chesapeake Homes is doing...we are so appreciative! We’ve met so many wonderful supporters of our military this past year. It is so encouraging to be in a country with patriot citizens who appreciate the sacrifices that others have given on their behalf.”
